Flutist Peter H. Bloom to Perform Jazz and Chamber Music in New England Venues

Flutist Peter H. Bloom, who tours the globe with jazz and classical ensembles, will perform hits by Duke Ellington in New Hampshire and Connecticut, and chamber music by Debussy, Ravel and Bax at the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury MA.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - April 14, 2019 - PRLog -- Flutist Peter H. Bloom, who concertizes internationally with noted jazz groups and chamber music ensembles, will perform diverse programs in New England venues.  All of the concerts are free and open to the public.

On Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 4:00 pm, Peter H. Bloom, flute and John Funkhouser, piano, will perform a Duke Ellington Birthday Bash at the Amherst Town Library 14 Main Street, Amherst NH 03031.  Free admission.  Information: 603-673-2288.  The show will include classics like Take the A Train, Don't Get Around Much Anymore, Caravan, In a Sentimental Mood, and other Ellingtonia including Cottontail, I'm Beginning to See the Light, and the lush ballad Chelsea Bridge by Ellington's longtime composing partner Billy Strayhorn.

On Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 4:00 pm, Ensemble Aubade (Peter H. Bloom, flute; Francis Grimes, viola; and Mary Jane Rupert, harp) will perform chamber music by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Arnold Bax at the Art Complex Museum, 189 Alden Street, Duxbury, MA 02331. Bloom, Flute and John Funkhouser, Piano in a Duke Ellington Celebration Concert at The Farmington Libraries – Main Library, 6 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT 06032. Free and open to the public. Peter H. Bloom performs in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, and appears on 45 CDs.  He has shared the stage with Ricky Ford, Charles Neville, Geri Allen, Sheila Jordan, Jaki Byard and other jazz greats. John Funkhouser, piano, has shared the stage with Luciana Souza, Tierney Sutton, Ran Blake, Herb Pomeroy, Yoron Israel, Laszlo Gardony, Ron Savage, Bob Gulotti, Stan Strickland, piano savant Matt Savage, and Mark Harvey's Aardvark Jazz Orchestra.  As the leader of his own band Funkhouse and as a sideman (piano and string bass), he has performed at Birdland, Blue Note, and Dizzy's in New York, New Orleans Jazz Festival, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Pittsburgh's Mellon Jazz Festival, and in top venues in Chicago, Los Angeles, Kansas City, and other U.S. cities.  He has toured abroad in such diverse locations as Paris, Toulon, Zurich, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Toronto, and Montreal.   Among others, Funkhouser has recorded with James Merenda's Masked Marvels, Pierre Hurel, Laura Allen, Willie Myette, Thomas Luescher, Aardvark, Matt Savage, John Lockwood, and FunkHouse. He teaches Bass, Ear Training, and Ensembles at Berklee College of Music.

Ensemble Aubade concertizes across the United States, with performances at the Saint Louis Art Museum, The Robert H. Wood Great Artist Series (NY), The Webster Series (Hanover NH), The Master Arts Series (Knoxville), Westminster Fine Arts (Des Moines), The Chamber Music Society of Central Kentucky in Lexington, The Mississippi Chambre Music Guild in Jackson, and many other venues.  The group has been hailed for "intensity, imagination, skill, and finesse" (St. Lawrence University) and "rich interpretations and beautiful contrasts" (West Claremont Center for the Arts).  Their music has been called "dynamic, expressive, richly colored and affecting" (Sisters of Loretto, Kentucky).

Peter H. Bloom, flute, whose playing has been called "a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength" (The Boston Globe), performs in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand; is featured on 45 recordings (Sony Classical, Dorian, Leo Records, other labels); is contributing editor for Noteworthy Sheet Music; and is a winner of the American Musicological Society's Noah Greenberg Award.  His career spans chamber music from the Renaissance to the 21st century, and he is a noted jazz artist.

Mary Jane Rupert, harp, praised by The New York Times as exhibiting "indeed real sensitivity," has performed throughout the world from Carnegie Recital Hall to the Beijing Concert Hall. She has appeared as concert pianist and harpist with chamber ensembles, choral groups and orchestras across the United States.  She serves on the faculties of Boston College and Tufts University and taught previously at Western Michigan University, MIT, and Wellesley College, where she taught harp for 20 years.

Francis Grimes, viola, has performed with the Boston Pops, Boston Opera, Boston Ballet, Masterworks Chorale, Sinfonova, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and other distinguished ensembles, and regularly serves in the orchestras of the Colonial and Schubert Theatres. He toured nationally with the Star Wars Orchestra and has performed with choral groups in England, Italy and the Czech Republic.
