WASHINGTON - March 26, 2019 - PRLog -- CommonLit, the free online reading program that provides literacy resources for students around the world, recently celebrated an exciting milestone: the DC-based nonprofit now serves over 10 million registered teachers and students, and continues to grow at a rate of 20,000 new registrants every school day.

To commemorate this achievement, CommonLit's staff hosted a party in downtown DC to celebrate and give thanks to the teachers, friends, donors, and colleagues who made the reading program what it is today.

Michelle Brown, founder and CEO of CommonLit, reiterated the organization's mission at the party when she spoke to the crowd of over 200 attendees. "Students who can read and write at a high level are empowered… they get great jobs, they build families, they participate in our democracy in important ways; and to us, that is everything," she emphasized.

Since its founding in 2013, CommonLit has built a digital reading program with over 1,700 engaging lessons accompanied by rigorous, standards-aligned questions and powerful data analytics for teachers. As part of its international expansion, CommonLit now also offers Spanish content and assessments.

What's next for CommonLit? The organization is setting its sights on an ambitious new goal: to develop a comprehensive full-year curriculum, paired with an assessment program and scalable instructional model. Based on its meteoric growth trajectory, CommonLit is slated to become a change-making agent in the US educational landscape.

CommonLit's mission is to ensure that all children, especially low-income children, graduate high school with the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills they need to be successful in college and career. Its reading program has been recognized with numerous awards from organizations including Teach For America, AT&T Aspire, the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and the Library of Congress. CommonLit supporters include the U.S. Department of Education, Cisco, and Google.org.
