Follow on Google News | Current National School Public Relations Association Member Releases Travel MemoirBy: TouchPoint Press In The Same Moon, seeking solitude, a young American divorcee runs off to rural Japan, where she finds a controversial romance, cross-cultural challenges, and new purpose for her life. Although The Same Moon is not primarily the story of a faith walk, it is written from the perspective of a woman who has spent her life mostly in the church and considers the world from a Protestant Christian perspective. It also is unique in that it is not simply a story about a short-term visit. It is informed by multiple stays in Japan—during high school, university and young adult years—and continued interaction with the culture over the following couple of decades. Author Sarah Coomber explains, "Many travel memoirs describe adventures that begin when the writer arrives in a new place with little knowledge of it and end when he or she finishes the trip, all the wiser. The Same Moon is informed by my long-term involvement with Japan. I had been engaged for eight years with the language, culture and people of Japan before beginning my two-year stint with the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program that forms this memoir's primary timeframe, and I have continued to be involved in the two decades since my return to the States." "I believe this book could be used in preparation courses/seminars for students preparing to participate in study abroad programs, especially at the university level. It shows the arc of culture shock and the impact of diving deeper into an international culture," Coomber adds. Sarah Coomber is an award-winning public relations professional and former journalist Coomber has been involved with Japan since her high school homestay experience. She has since taught Japanese language and dance in Minnesota and English in Yamaguchi, Japan, and studied koto (zither) for eleven years in Yamaguchi and Oregon. She still considers the Maedas her second family and Hagi her second hometown. Her stories and essays have appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, The Japan Times, The Star Tribune, Cha: An Asian Literary Journal; Memoir Journal; The Font: A Literary Journal for Language Teachers, and others. # TouchPoint Press (http://www.touchpointpress.com) is a traditional royalty paying publisher of fiction and nonfiction.
