Gabe Morris Wins Next Level in VFW Essay Contest

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Dec. 18, 2018 - PRLog -- Gabe Morris, a student at Apache Junction High School, recently placed first at the district level in the Voice of Democracy Speech Contest sponsored by VFW Post 7968, 250 S. Phelps Drive in Apache Junction.

Prior to his latest win, Gabe took first place in the local competition for his essay "Why My Vote Matters" and won $300 for his efforts. Next, the high school senior will advance to the state competition.

"Gabe has done an excellent job with his essay," said Sheryl Anderson, who teachers Government at AJHS. "He is able to communicate clearly, apply his critical thinking skills, and organize his thoughts in a logical and persuasive way. By honing these skills now, he not only improves his chances to win additional awards in the future, he is developing communication skills that he can use the rest of his life. We are all very proud of Gabe and wish him luck as he represents all Prospectors as he enters the next level of competition."

Winners from the state will move on to the Voice of Democracy National Finals in Washington D.C. March 2-6, 2019. The Grand Prize winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship.
