Dogs Carve The Waves For No Kill Shelter Charity In San Diego, CABy: Kerry Hawk The event is to raise money for the HWAC no-kill shelter and 100% of the donations went to the animal center. There were all kinds of dogs that donned their life vests, shades and some of the surf dogs even had their own custom made wetsuits like Surf Gidget The Pug, a 5 year old pug from San Clemente, CA. I asked Gidget's owner Alecia Nelson what makes this surf event special for her. She told me, "It's all about having fun but a win is great too. We love coming to support this event and Gidget has a great time." I asked Alecia, "Does Gidget do anything special when she surfs?" She told me: "Gidget will do 360's, she rides backwards, walks the board and she always stands, she never jumps off. She's a lot of fun to watch." And Gidget did not disappoint. Gidget won her extra small weight class, placing 1st. The little pug placed 2nd in the tandem class with her partner Prince Dudeman from Culver City, CA. The Best-In-Surf Final was a nail-biter. 5 dogs of all sizes competing to be top dog. 10 minutes of wave after wave, turns and landing on shore. The final overall score was so close but Gidget took 2nd place in the final for 'Best In Surf Championship 2018.' Sugar was crowned 'Top Dog' winning first place in the final and Turbo took third. I look forward to the next surf dog competition.
