| ![]() Selling pixels is back but this time there is a differenceA new pixel selling website hopes to sell a million pixels displaying people's faces to create a unique piece of clickable art.
By: Face Impressions Face impressions is selling their pixel space for $0.50 per pixel and must be used to display an image of a person's face. The minimum amount of pixels purchasable is 100, which is equal to one square on their one million pixel grid. Customers can link their pixels to a website of their choice. "I wanted to start something that highlights the diversity that exists around the world and at the same time create something that's unique. I also wanted to support good causes so I will be donating 10% of the proceeds to charity. I plan to use the rest of the money to develop a new augmented reality mobile application idea I have that I believe will bring real benefit to people's lives." "Since the introduction of social media people want to promote themselves more than ever. I believe that Face Impressions will give them the opportunity to do that in a unique way." Whilst selling pixels is not a brand new idea using people's faces is certainly a different edge to the concept. The idea of selling pixels was first conceived by Alex Tew on The Million Dollar Home Page. Back in 2005 he was successful in selling a million pixels at $1 each for people to place advertisements on. If Face Impressions is successful in selling out their pixels then it will be set to become a piece of internet history just like The Million Dollar Homepage. "Should Face Impressions become successful I intend to keep it running for as long as possible. I want it to become a recognisable symbol of diversity available to all."
