Lean Six Sigma conference in Atlanta offers management education

NORCROSS, Ga. - Aug. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- Are you running a tight, economically sound and efficient operation? Find out at the Engineering Lean and Six Sigma (ELSS) conference in Atlanta at The American Hotel – A Doubletree by Hilton on Sept. 24-26. Attendees span a wide spectrum of industries from manufacturing and healthcare to service and retail, along with academia.

"We're excited to bring a program of variety and substance for anyone interested in improving operations and bottom lines while elevating the client, patient or customer experience," said Don Greene, CEO of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). This is the 18th year IISE has offered the ELSS conference and the seventh time it has been held in Atlanta.

At ELSS, Greene said the doors are wide open to anyone interested in learning and applying proven industrial engineering techniques to improve their processes. "Business owners and managers are welcome to learn alongside and from ISEs [industrial and systems engineers] at this international event."

ISEs use a variety of tools to enhance operations whether at a theme park, an auto manufacturing plant, or an airport by reducing waste, enhancing continuous improvement, applying time measurement, quality control and a number of other techniques, explained Greene, a licensed professional engineer. This event "combines the power and effectiveness of lean and Six Sigma to optimize value and cut waste while fine-tuning processes and improving quality."

With "LEANing into Six Sigma Organizational Transformation," as its theme, ELSS offers attendees 50 in-depth educational sessions, invaluable contacts and renowned keynote speakers including Norman L. Firchau, Ph.D., president and CEO of Porsche Consulting Inc.; Lukasz Mazur, Ph.D., assistant professor, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; and Amanda Mewborn, executive director of the Project Management Office, Piedmont Healthcare-Atlanta.

Featured speaker Col. Howard D. McInvale, U.S. Military Academy West Point, will talk about how the U.S. Army created a culture of lean Six Sigma across teams. With 25 years of service as an infantry officer and analyst, McInvale is currently an associate professor of mathematics at West Point and serves as the deployment director for the West Point lean Six Sigma program.

Sessions are complemented by facility tours of Chick-fil-A main headquarters and Emory Healthcare. Early conference-goers can enjoy a pre-conference workshop "Developing Lean Thinkers" on Sept. 24 with Crystal Davis, CEO of the Lean Coach Inc. Separate workshop registration required.
