Beacon Media + Marketing Hires New Digital Account Manager and Marketing Assistant
New hires Raquel Schroeder and Michelle Marrara bring strong backgrounds in social networking and marketing finesse to the Beacon team.
Earlier this year, Alaska born and raised Raquel Schroeder wanted to take a new and different approach to the hiring process. Instead of submitting countless resumes and applications through electronic portals to organizations around Anchorage, she purchased her domain name (raquelschroeder.com), built a website centered around her personality, skills, and experience, and launched a branded advertising campaign on LinkedIn. When Beacon Vice President of Marketing Jennifer Christensen saw Schroeder's campaign online, she did not hesitate, "We have got to hire her!" she said to the team that afternoon. Within three days, Schroeder had received three interviews and four job offers, testament to the effectiveness of inbound marketing and the incredible fit Schroeder would be for the Beacon team.
Schroeder's background lies in social networking and data management. This unique combination makes for a highly effective approach to account management. Schroeder is able to take her client's vision and translate it into a measurable strategy for success. She started her career in aviation, quickly finding her way to data tracking and community relations. Schroeder is currently active in the aviation community in Anchorage as an Executive Board Member of NextGen Aviators Group. Pursuing her passion for data, Schroeder is working toward a Professional Data Engineer certification with Google Cloud. She currently has her Google Analytics certification and she is a member of Women in Big Data.
"I'm so happy to be a part of the team here at Beacon!" Schroeder says, "I love working together with everyone to help our clients' marketing dreams come true. I enjoy the challenge of keeping up with the industry and the knowledge I've gained from working with my peers and mentors. I look forward to advancing my marketing career with team Beacon!"
In March, Beacon was looking to grow and increase capacity by adding a Marketing Assistant to the team. The company published the job posting nationally in order to find the best possible fit for the new role. At the time, Michelle Marrara was in her home state of North Carolina but searching for something in Alaska because her new husband Jon had been stationed there in February. She had just completed working for a national mental health hospital system as a professional relations liaison over the Southeast U.S. Having received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Recreational Therapy, Marrara knew the mental health world well and developed a passion for marketing from her knowledge. She went on to work for a print, design, and promotional product company in her home state, doing sales and social media. When Beacon received Marrara's resume and saw first-hand her natural talent for sales and marketing, she was hired.
Beacon Vice President of Production Jess Muller was in charge of the hiring process for Marrara. Commenting on her decision, she says, "I knew when we wrote the ad for this position we were looking for a really special person, at the time I wasn't sure if we'd find someone. But about four questions into Michelle's interview, I wrote "hire her!" across my notes in big letters. From our very first interaction, I knew she had the special combination of expertise, skill and caring that we really needed. I could not be happier with how she has fit into and shaped our team."
Marrara comments on her selection. "I was so excited to become part of the Beacon team!" she says, "I love working with the people here and I have already learned so much and can't wait to continue to learn and grow more!"
President of Beacon Media + Marketing Adrienne Wilkerson has nothing but raving reviews for the new hires. "I'm so excited to have both Raquel and Michelle on our team!" she says, "They both bring so much excitement and an influx of new ideas to our company. I was immediately captured by the creativity of Raquel's resume and posting on LinkedIn. Then when I got to actually talk to her I was blown away by her friendly professionalism. Within 5 minutes of first talking to Michelle, I felt like I had known her forever, she instantly makes people feel comfortable and at home. Alaska is a better place for her being here and Beacon is a better company for having both of them. They are a joy to work with."
