Bethel High School in Miami has improved from the lowest rating to the mid-range "maintaining" "We are honored to take on the task of helping young people faced with challenging socio-economic conditions complete their education and earn their high school diplomas," said Thom Jackson, EdisonLearning's President and CEO. "The improvement achieved by each of these schools is due in no small part to the determination of the students to learn, and the dedication of the passionate professional educators who have helped to guide them towards a better future," Jackson said. School improvement ratings are part of Florida's school accountability system, which originated with the Florida Legislature's passage of Assistance Plus (A+) legislation in 1999; and are calculated for alternative schools that choose to receive a school improvement rating in lieu of a school grade. Based on statutory criteria, alternative schools are identified by the Florida Department of Education with input from Florida's school districts.
