Super Endurance Championship Round 2

Today, the overall fastest team in the SEC [Super Endurance Championship] Round Two, BlackArts Racing ['BAR', www.blackartsracing.com] was sidelined after a mechanical issue in their Caterham R500 while leading Round 2's highest class, the 'Unlimited Class' by over 20 seconds at the end of the 3^rd hour.

In qualifying, Bill O'Brien dominated the Qualifying One session on new tires while in Qualifying Two, BELL Helmets driver Pete Olson [www.peteolson.com] took P2 while using the session to practice for the 6 Hour Super Endurance Race on 120 lap used tires. In Qualifying Two, under cooler weather BAR was edged out of Pole Position by a TCR on new tires by just a tenth of a second, and thus BAR started Sunday's 6 Hour race in P2.

After a strong start to Sunday's 6 Hour race, BAR took the lead after just a few laps and repeatedly set the fastest race times. By hour 3, BAR was leading by 20 seconds thanks to the consistent fast driving of Bill O'Brien, Rich Pham, and Pete Olson. In the oppressive 107F ambient temperature and full nomex and race gear, the drivers undertook grueling stints of around 30 laps each before handing over the car in well-coordinated rapid pit stops for fueling and driver change.

However, after Olson's stint, racer Patrick Tsang took over but spun shortly after starting his stint in the 3^rd hour, and the team was unable to continue due to a mechanical issue.

Despite the setback of Round 2, the team is planning to make a strong comeback in Round 3 of the Super Endurance Championship, to be held on September 28-30 at Guangdong International Circuit. The event will be the last 6 hour race before the grueling 12 Hour, winner takes all finale on December 31^st, 2018.
