State Bee Inspector to speak in Logan

Joey Caputo, Utah State bee inspector, will speak to the Cache Valley Beekeepers Association at their meeting on Thursday, July 5. This presentation about varroa mite detection and control is free and open to the public.
 
LOGAN, Utah - July 1, 2018 - PRLog -- Joey Caputo, Utah State Bee Inspector with the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food will be speaking at the July 5, 2018 meeting of the Cache Valley Beekeepers Association beginning at 7 p.m. in room 202 of the USU Nutrition and Food Science Building (just north of the Aggie Ice Cream outlet, 750 N 1200 E in Logan). Caputo's presentation is entitled "A lesson on the Varroa mite".  Learn about the most destructive pest of European honey bee colonies.  This presentation will cover the Varroa's history, life cycle, and relationship with honey bee viruses.  Effective monitoring and control techniques will also be reviewed.  Beekeepers of all skill levels are welcome and are likely to find the information presented useful in keeping hives healthy.  The presentation will last about one hour and is free and open to the public.

The Cache Valley Beekeepers Association meets in the Nutrition and Food Science classroom at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.
