Beatles Music Expert Kit O'Toole to Give Introduction at Yellow Submarine Film in Addison
By: 12 Bar Publishing
Chicago-based O'Toole, author of Songs We Were Singing: Guided Tours Through the Beatles' Lesser-Known Tracks and Michael Jackson FAQ: All That's Left to Know About the King of Pop, has long specialized in "deeper dives" into popular music – album tracks and B-sides that she feels are just as significant as the hit songs. Many of such songs are featured on the soundtrack to Yellow Submarine.
"Yellow Submarine includes some of the Beatles' most fun yet ambitious songs," says O'Toole. "From the classics to "Hey Bulldog" and "It's All Too Much," there's something for first generation Beatles enthusiasts as well as newer fans. Disney buffs will also appreciate the film, as it marries sound and vision similar to Fantasia."
The 1968 movie, which follows the cartoon Beatles through a series of psychedelic adventures in "Pepperland,"
"The movie contains one timeless theme: all you need is love," says O'Toole. "Ultimately music conquers hate in Pepperland, and who cannot relate to that today?"
In addition to her two books, O'Toole is also associate editor and a longtime contributing editor for Beatlefan magazine, reviewer and "Deep Beatles" columnist for Something Else Reviews, the "DeepSoul" columnist for Blinded by Sound, a frequent contributor to Cinema Sentries, and a regular speaker at The Fest for Beatles Fans in Chicago and New York and the Beatles at the Ridge festival in Walnut Ridge, AR. O'Toole has also presented at the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, and written chapters for academic collections such as Interdisciplinary Essays on Environment and Culture; New Critical Perspectives on The Beatles: Things We Said Today; and The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper, and the Summer of Love. Her next authored book, Soul Searching: Buried Treasures of R&B, Soul, Dance, and Hip-Hop, is forthcoming in 2018. She holds a doctorate in Instructional Technology.
