PALM COAST, Fla. - June 21, 2018 - PRLog -- The Flagler Chamber's Common Ground Breakfasts features high-profile subject matter experts on topics that impact local businesses and the community.

Join us on June 28 with special guest Dr. Jennifer Mitchell with the St Johns Water Management District to provide a discussion on "The Future of Water."

Status of our water: In 2016, 1.1 billion gallons of water were used a day across the St. Johns River Water Management District.  The residents of the district use more than half of that water.  As population continues to grow, we must reduce the per capita water to ensure that we have enough water for people and nature.  The mission of SJRWMD is to balance human need for water with that of nature.  This presentation highlights how much water we use and provides ways for us to reduce our water use.

Overview of the district: Established in 1972, the district is an environmental regulatory agency of the state.  In this presentation, learn what the district does to accomplish its four missions of providing water quality, water supply, flood protection, and maintaining natural systems.

About Dr. Mitchell:  Jennifer Mitchell is Public Communications Coordinator with the St. Johns River Water Management District.  She is passionate about Florida's incredible water resources and hopes to spark your interest in what you can do to help protect Florida's waterways.  After earning her Ph.D. in Forest Ecology from Auburn University, she completed a post-doc at the University of Florida in Soil and Water Science.  Because she realizes that greater results will come from more community participation, she now works to spread the message of how individuals can reduce their impact on our waterways.
