DREKETI, Fiji - May 24, 2018 - PRLog -- CacaoFiji is excited to announce that their cocoa beans have won the Silver award for the Bean to Bar Milk category at the prestigious Academy of Chocolate Awards .  Soma Chocolate Vanua Milk 55% was submitted and this was the first time Fiji cocoa beans participated in the awards. A record-breaking 1,200 entries have been judged at the 2018 Awards.  The entries, made up of chocolate produced in more than 45 countries, included a significant increase in chocolate made by smaller producers - reflecting growing awareness of the origin, craft and sustainability of real chocolate.

"Competing and winning with 1200 entrants and 45 countries is no easy feat. We thank our partners Soma who are accomplished chocolatiers and they have been happy with quality of beans. We strive to process beans world class beans and the recognition is satisfying." said Arif,  Founder of Cacao Fiji Ltd  " Our model is to buy the wet seeds and cocoa pods from farmers and centrally process and monitor the beans under watchful eyes. We use technology and stringent quality control of beans to bring international standards cacao beans for chocolate companies around the world!"

Cacaofiji is the largest exporter of Fiji origin cacao beans and exports to USA, Canada, France, New Zealand and Australia. In 2015, the company was recognized as the top 50 beans at the International Cocoa Awards and have been working with farmers to revive the cocoa industry since then.

The company is also looking to make chocolate locally in order to create a local demand and work towards import substitution. Once a thriving industry, cocoa industry had died down due change in market demands and Cacao Fiji is looking to hedge that risk by exporting to various continents and creating local demand as well.

" The market demand for fine cacao beans is strong. We are currently building in Rakiraki at Nunukoloa to provide market support to the cocoa farmers of Rakiraki and Tailevu . We will work closely with MPI to create a sustainable revival of the Fiji Cocoa Industry.," said Arif . "The industry once produced close to 500 tonnes and supported over 3000 farmers and all stakeholders need to get on the same page to bring cocoa back to glory days."
