Inmates in Bloomington Assisted by New Drug Addiction Treatment Program

The prison population of Bloomington, in central Illinois, has been assisted by a new opioid addiction treatment program.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - May 23, 2018 - PRLog -- An addiction treatment program established in Bloomington, Illinois has been assisting the local inmates who struggle with opioid use disorders.

The program helps the inmates who are at the McLean County Detention Facility. They get linked to drug addiction treatment services that are federally funded and provided by the Chestnut Health Systems.

Chesnut Health Systems is a private, nonprofit organization that provides behavioral health and human services to people across Illinois.

The program —  named Behind the Wall — has been partly supported by a federal grant as well as by capital provided by agencies that are affiliated with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The grant, of $540,000, was provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in the state of Illinois.

The sum is shared between McLean County and Madison County — which has also established the Behind the Wall program.

The McLean County Detention Facility has chaplains and counselors who orientate the inmates and refer them to a treatment program offered by the Chestnut Health Systems.

The addiction treatment program offers professional counseling sessions and doses of Vivitrol to the participants at the Chestnut Family Health Center.

The program has screened 25 people with substance use disorders until now.

Some of the participants have brought up that they believe this is a positive step but they still think that more needs to be done to educate and help the local community.
