Follow on Google News | Drug Treatment Program in Laconia Jail In Need of MoneyA drug treatment program in a Laconia, New Hampshire jail is searching for funding as Belknap County Commissioners attempt to save it from being cancelled.
The Community Corrections Center in Belknap County (CCC) has carried the program, which is called Corrections Opportunity for Recovery and Education (CORE) with the goal of giving people with addiction a chance to rehabilitate rather than go to jail. The drug treatment program has been active since 2017. CORE came together out of a union between the CCC and Horizons Counseling Center, an outpatient treatment group in New Hampshire. There are four phases that CORE enforces. A three month treatment plan is the first step with supervision by therapists and case managers. A work release is the second phase which sees patients working while also attending sessions at night. Electronic monitoring becomes the third step with supervision by the staff. The patient getting released into the community becomes the final step. There were 72 beds in the CCC with about half of them for CORE program use when the program was initialized. Before CORE, Horizons ran a pilot program with an affiliation with the county for two years. They helped 10 patients three days a week but extended to five days and 35 patients after the CCC's opening. Horizons signed a $220,000 with Belknap County to run the CORE program. Belknap County chose last month to slash funding for this treatment program cutting off $92,000 after it finalized a $27.9 million budget. The commissioners of the county have been deliberating how to deal with the budget cut as there was a chance that they may have to go with surplus money. There has been no decision made at the moment on how the commissioners plan to keep CORE going. https://www.drugaddictionnow.com/ End
