Sehatmand Mustaqbil Launches an Online Fundraiser to Bring Free Healthcare for the Poor in Gabo Path

KARACHI, Pakistan - April 8, 2018 - PRLog -- Situated on the outskirts of Pakistan's largest economic hub, Karachi, the administrative division of Gabo Path is home to 42 villages, 0.13 million people – and three dispensaries all of which are non-operational. Due to non-availability of a health facilitation unit in the area, the people of Gabo Path are deprived of any sort of medical care. For consultation, diagnosis or treatment, they have to travel to the city, a journey that stretches to 2 road hours. Their only way to get there – a public bus service that runs twice a day.

Sehatmand Mustaqbil, a non-profit organization led by a group of young social entrepreneurs, aims to change that through its latest social initiative, Project Sehat Mubarak. A telehealth based project, Sehat Mubarak is geared towards bringing free basic medical care to the doorstep of 0.13 million people of Gabo Path and the organization is seeking donations to make the deployment possible and successful.

"Healthcare is a basic human right, but for 0.13 million people of Gabo Path, it does not exist. We want to change that." explained Haniya Arif, Marketing Manager of Sehatmand Mustaqbil.

"We want to set up a telehealth unit in the area so people won't have to make hours-long journeys for basic diagnosis and treatment. Free doctor consultation and medicines will be available right at their doorstep. For treatment of diseases like malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia, this telemedicine unit can prove to be vital. We can reduce cases of preventable deaths in the area through it."

Only last year, more than 1800 combined cases of malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia were reported in Gabo Path. These were the patients who managed to overcome the difficulties of the journey—the hours long travelling and its accompanying expenses. Many others found their steps too heavy and pockets too burdened.

Sehatmand Mustaqbil will be partnering with a team of doctors, pharmaceutical companies and telecommunication service providers, under the project title "Sehat Mubarak", to provide video-based medical services to the 42 villages of Gabo Path. A long-abandoned dispensary in the area will serve as its facilitation unit. Along with free consultation and diagnosis, free medicine will also be made available at the dispensary.

To make the deployment possible and sustainable however, Sehatmand Mustaqbil needs support of the privileged in the value chain. The fundraising campaign launched with Gofundme is a part of this strategic fundraising activity.
