Charmed, curated by Kyle Quinn, presented by Raw Meat Collective at YELLOW PERIL

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - March 9, 2018 - PRLog -- Yellow Peril is pleased to launch the 2018 season with Charmed, an explorative, Queer group show curated by Kyle Quinn, founder of Raw Meat Collective (New York, NY), featuring Sarah Anderson, FredAttenborough, Peter Clough, Kris Grey, Juan Manuel Gudiño and Ernesto Renda.  The opening reception is Saturday, March 17, from 6PM – 9PM and the show will run through Saturday, May 12.  Dates will be announced later for a series of events at the gallery related to the show.

Ranging in mixed media from painting, sculpture, video and publication, Charmed reflects our dark undertones of counter Queer culture and emulates the things that keep us breathing within Queer Contemporary art.

SARAH ANDERSON, a former Rhode Island School of Design student, will present mixed media works based along the lines of submissions. They are currently a New Collaborations resident at NURTUREart and an A.I.R. Governor's Island Resident.

FRED ATTENBOROUGH's work has been featured in Vogue, Nylon and Harper's Bazaar, along with photographing some of New York's top drag queens.

PETER CLOUGH will present a new seven-hour long video created specifically for Charmed. Clough has shown work at SPRING/BREAK Art Fair, LeRoy Neiman at Columbia University, and various galleries throughout New York.

KRIS GREY is a former Fire Island Artist Residency recipient and will showcase dark porcelain works that push the topics of gender within their own work and body. They are also currently pursuing a residency at MOCA Tucson for 2018.

JUAN MANUEL GUDIÑOis a Los Angeles fine artist who highlights strong traits in abstraction with painting, bringing greys, heavy brushwork and textures to the show. Gudiño has been in past collaborations with Los Angeles Chicano artist and DJ group Maricon Collective.

ERNESTO RENDAis currently receiving a Dual-Degree from The Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University in Modern Culture and Media Theory. His work shifts between sculpture and painting, and he currently has work on view at Brown University.

"These contemporary artists offer a fresh lens into current Queer perspectives," curator Kyle Quinn underscores.  "They represent a charming and embracing light within dark times of oppression and hetero-normative atmospheres."

During the run of Charmed, RAW MEAT COLLECTIVE will present a library of zines and artist publications, as well as newly released photographs. Raw Meat Collective has been a publisher since 2014 and participates in many artist books fairs across the country. Raw Meat's publications are held in The Whitney's Bulwark Special Collections archive for their artist books, along with other private collections. The Collective is an on-going curatorial platform developed by Kyle Quinn.

The opening reception for Charmed is Saturday, March 17, from 6PM – 9PM.  Dates will be announced later for a series of events at the gallery related to the show.  The exhibition will conclude Saturday, May 12.  This is Yellow Peril's first curatorial project with Raw Meat Collective.
