FRANKLIN, Mass. - March 6, 2018 - PRLog -- Jaco Incorporated, manufacturer of point-of-care medical computer carts and wall-mounted workstations for electronic health records (EHR), today unveiled Jaco One EVO, its next-generation lightweight EHR cart platform, at the HIMSS 2018 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas, Booth 4465.

When equipped with 500 Wh of on-board rechargeable lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) power, Jaco One EVO has a starting weight of just 72 pounds – 23 to 60 pounds lighter than competing full-sized, full-shift powered medical carts.

Jaco One EVO (EVO) is precision-balanced, for improved weight distribution that makes the cart especially easy to steer and maneuver. And EVO includes a refined and repositioned version of Jaco's Comfort Glide Lift Technology™ that enables nurses to raise or lower the cart's worksurface with just one hand.

"It's no secret that nurses want lighter, easier-to-roll computer carts," said Fred Rossini, Jaco Founder and CEO. "We designed Jaco One EVO from the ground up to be much lighter, and much easier to handle, than any other full-sized, full-shift powered cart – without sacrificing the durability and reliability our customers have come to expect from our products. EVO will dramatically reduce the physical stress and strain associated with long nursing shifts, and dramatically reduce the time IT staff spends maintaining powered carts."

Much lighter, more balanced and nimble – by design

Most medical carts support the worksurface, computer and peripherals on a straight-post lift anchored to the rear of the cart base. This loads most of the cart weight on the rear wheels, which can make the cart difficult to roll and steer.

In contrast, EVO's repositioned Comfort Glide lift distributes the cart weight evenly, front-to-back and side-to-side. The result is a perfectly-balanced cart that rolls and steers equally easily in any direction.

"We like to say that Jaco One EVO isn't a cart that nurses push or pull, but a cart that nurses walk with naturally," said Rossini. "It's a full-sized cart that moves with nurses, not against them."

One-handed height adjustment

EVO's repositioned Comfort Glide lift offers another benefit: It optimizes leverage and counteracts gravity and resistance so perfectly that anyone can raise or lower the cart's worksurface with one hand.

"With EVO, the lift-assist piston is positioned directly beneath the front of the worksurface, right where the nurse applies push or pull force," said Tom Bagley, Jaco's Vice President of Engineering. "It requires much less effort to adjust than a worksurface that's cantilevered from a post at the rear of the cart."

Comfort Glide eliminates the need for an electronic powered lift unit, like those found on other full-sized powered carts. Compared to powered lift, Comfort Glide is much faster, much quieter, and much less likely to need expensive service and repair. It also results in a much lighter cart, as many carts equipped with powered lift can weigh 120 pounds or more.

EVO's Comfort Glide lift system is backed by a 10-year warranty. It's based on a lift system included with some of Jaco's earliest medical cart models – many of which are still in use today after more than a dozen years of trouble-free performance.

On-board or hot-swap LiFePO4 power; investment-protecting warranties

EVO offers two safe, proven, fast-charging lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) power solutions:

·        On-board rechargeable LiFePO4 power (250 or 500 Wh). Jaco customer service records indicate problems with fewer than 1% of Jaco on-board LiFePO4 power systems per year on average. And 99.9% of Jaco on-board LiFePO4 batteries sold up to six years ago are still in use today.

·        Jaco POWER BLADE dual-battery hot-swap power. With two full-sized, sequentially-discharging batteries on every cart (408 Wh total capacity), Jaco POWER BLADE provides nurses with long runtimes, and gives them hours to swap the first battery before the second is spent. POWER BLADE can significantly reduce supply chain costs compared to other Li-ion hot-swap systems, and may enable hospitals to downsize their powered cart fleets by up to 30%, for even greater savings.

In addition to the 10-year warranty on Jaco One EVO's Comfort Glide lift system, EVO includes a 7-year limited warranty on structural components, a 3-year limited warranty on electronic components, and a 3-year/4,000-cycle limited warranty on Jaco LiFePO4 on-board or hot-swap batteries.
