NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Jan. 16, 2018 - PRLog -- Find a cure to the winter blues with the uplifting colors in the artwork by Jane Coder, now on display until March 8th at Carry Out Cafe & Catering. The exhibition, entitled "Celebrate Good Times," features warm, vibrant and celebratory colors designed to contrast with the cold winter grays, whites, and blacks outside.  A special reception will be held on Sunday, Feb. 4th from 2-4 p.m. at the cafe, located at 155 State Street in Newburyport. The public is invited to meet the artist, view the paintings, and enjoy a custom beverage from the hot cocoa bar.

Coder is an accomplished contemporary artist who seeks patterns and meaning in the world, resulting in abstract, spiritual and meditative art. She sums up her creative work with a quote by Kenneth Clark: "Art must do something more than to give pleasure; it should relate to our own life as to increase our energy of spirit. Not only for the viewer but even more importantly for the artist."

Working mostly in acrylic paint, oil pastel and watercolor, Coder's art ranges from painting and sketches to prints and multi-media collage. The subject matter springs from her imagination and is conceptual and process-driven. "My art has been a source of peace, comfort, and happiness. Over the years, my art has been a visual diary, inspired by memory, loss, emotion, place and time. Colors drive the work. My paintings might be called intuitive landscapes. Recent work reflects the spiritual and visual influence of my current life, which includes a move to Massachusetts from New Hampshire and living within view of the Merrimack River."

Born and educated in Boston, Coder holds degrees from Emmanuel College and Harvard University where she studied literature and art. She has participated in solo and group shows throughout the north shore of Massachusetts as well as in Boston and Cambridge, New Hampshire and Vermont. In addition to being a visual artist, Coder is a teacher and poet. She formerly was the owner of Sun Wheel Studios in Swampscott and Salem, MA, and the publisher of a literary/art magazine, Garden Lane.

A member of the Abstract Artists' Group of New England, Marblehead Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, and Cambridge Art Association, Coder has a studio at 14 Cedar Street and resides in Amesbury, MA with her husband, Dick.
