As It Is When It Was Exhibition

LOS ANGELES - Jan. 11, 2018 - PRLog -- As It Is When It Was brings together 32 Los Angeles-based artists working across a variety of media and genres. Individually, these artist's practices attend to a constellation of questions, conditions, methods, and ideas; as a cohort, their works serendipitously cohere into direct and indirect reflections on the nature of self and temporality.

The title of the exhibition suggests a paradoxical proposition. It calls to mind the impossibility of existing purely in the present. In subtle, nuanced, and unexpected ways, each artwork in the exhibition speaks to a sustained reinvention of representations of self and of the conditions that shape it. This paradox casts what might otherwise be a collection of singular and disparate artworks, as an unexpected series of meditations on the past, present, and future.

Exhibiting artists: Magda Audifred, Frank Avila, Adriana Baltazar, Eugenia Barbuc, James Basilio, Barry Bridgwood, Josh Burwell, Eddie Cole, James Garcia, Gabby Gonzales, Palente Henry, Edwin Ho, Joanna Ingco, Sarah Julig, Abraham Khan, Frances Lalanne, Nguyen Ly, Miranda Maynard, Jordan Miller, Adriane Mota, Jessica Pedroza, Sam Phillips, Victor Prieto, Diana Rodriguez, Christopher Romero, Leonard Rusch, Michelle Seo, Ashley Shumaker, Jesse Tise, Vickie Uyeda, Jesse Warford, Jussi Wayne
