Parents in Mourning to Host National Children's Memorial Service

PALM COAST, Fla. - Nov. 30, 2017 - PRLog -- Parents in Mourning, a support group for bereaved parents in the community, will host a National Children's Memorial Service to support parents facing the emotional challenges of the holiday season.

The event will take place Dec. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at Veterans Park, located at the corner of Hwy. 100 and S.R. A1A in Flagler Beach.

A memorial service held by Pastor Barry Harris will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by Captain Nick. The public is welcome to the attend and encouraged to bring along a chair and candle for the vigil.

National Children's Memorial Service is hosted internationally "in memory of all children who have died in our community and worldwide so their light continues to shine."

The 21st annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, a gift to the bereavement community from The Compassionate Friends, creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. TCF's WWCL started in the United States in 1997 as a small internet observance, but has since swelled in numbers as word has spread throughout the world of remembrance. Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held and thousands of informal candle lightings are conducted in homes as families gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died, but will never be forgotten.

Local resident Donna Lunsford launched Parents in Mourning after her son Jonathan and his cousin Eric were tragically killed by a drunk driver. Lunsford is a certified grief counselor and psychiatric registered nurse and offers occasional bereavement workshops.
