Actors Auction Residuals on Allegheny Exchange
Alternative investment marketplace, Allegheny Exchange, provides performing artists a new platform to monetize residuals.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Nov. 20, 2017 - PRLog -- Actors can now auction their residuals to investors. Allegheny Exchange, the leading alternative investment marketplace, has expanded its available asset classes. It now provides film and television performers a platform to monetize their residuals. Rather than waiting years to get paid, the artists auction the future payments for large, lump sums of cash. Residual buyers receive the consistent cash flow the residuals and royalties generate and achieve higher yields than traditional investments. By purchasing residuals, investors provide their favorite film and television stars capital to fund new and exciting projects.
The performers do not lose any rights to the residuals. Only specific payments are assigned to the residual buyers. Sellers choose how many years of residuals to sell. At the end of the term, the assignment expires and the performer will continue receiving payments or can sell additional residuals. The artists also have the option of selling partial interest in the residuals. He or she can auction 10-90% of the residuals and continue receiving quarterly payments.
Residuals are compensation paid to performers for use of a theatrical motion picture or television program beyond the use covered by initial compensation. For TV work, residuals begin once a show starts re-airing or is released to video/DVD, pay television, broadcast TV, basic cable, or new media. For film work, residuals begin once the movie appears on video/DVD, basic cable and free or pay television, or new media. They are typically paid quarterly. As long as the films and television programs are being broadcast, the performers continue to receive payments.
All performers hired under or upgraded to a principal performer agreement whose performance remains in the final product receive residuals. This includes performers, professional singers, stunt performers, stunt coordinators, pilots, certain dancers and puppeteers.
Allegheny Exchange is an online marketplace for alternative investments. Companies, municipalities, homeowners associations (HOA's) and performing artists use the platform to raise cash. High net worth and institutional investors are able to purchase receivables, tax liens, judgment liens, super liens*, royalties and residuals. Investors diversify their portfolios by acquiring alternative assets with uncorrelated returns to traditional investments such as stocks, bonds and mutual funds.
