Accumen Patient Blood Management Client Lead Presents at American Association of Blood Banks Meeting

SAN DIEGO - Sept. 27, 2017 - PRLog -- Accumen Inc. continues to make a positive impact in patient blood management (PBM) efforts, which have grown exponentially in response to the reality that many transfusions are unnecessary or avoidable in today's healthcare environment.  Melanie Jorgenson, RN, BSN, Client Delivery Lead, Patient Blood Management, is the new author of the Blood Administration Chapter in the 19^th Edition AABB Technical Manual.  Jorgenson is slated to speak at the 2017 American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) Annual Meeting scheduled for October 7-10, 2017, in San Diego, California.

AABB is the global leader in standards development, accreditation, and implementation of quality systems in transfusion medicine and cellular therapies with an unwavering focus on donor and patient safety.  AABB brings together those engaged in transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.  AABB creates a unique learning environment, including the signature Annual Meeting, that inspires and enables research, innovation, discovery, and excellence.  More than 5,000 domestic and international attendees will participate in the annual meeting that attracts CEOs, medical directors, clinical laboratory supervisors and administrators, transfusion specialists, cellular therapy, blood banking professionals, medical technologists, donor recruiters, physicians, and nurses.

Jorgenson serves as a member of the AABB annual meeting education committee, hemovigilance committee, and PBM education committee, and chairs the PBM/TSO subsection for AABB.  Accumen's Gail Heflin and Julie Navarro also serve as members of the PBM/TSO Subsection with Jorgenson.

Prior to joining Accumen, Jorgenson served as the Chief Transfusion Safety Officer at Seattle's Puget Sound Blood Center where she supervised a team of blood center hospital transfusion safety officers and accrued a wealth of knowledge on patient care, safe transfusion practices, and strategies for educating medical professionals.  A graduate of the University of Washington and a Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certificate holder, Jorgenson has served as faculty and chaired committees along with holding membership in several national trade associations including AABB, AACN, and SABM.  Jorgenson also has the privilege of serving on the AABB's PBM Standards Committee.
