Follow on Google News | Broadway-Style Show Opens at Bardstown's My Old Kentucky Home'The Stephen Foster Story,' Disney's Beauty and the Beast' and Live at the Park concert series staged under the stars

Commis Meet the cast An Opening Night pre-show event will kick things off beginning at 6 p.m. on June 10: Celebrate with the cast of "The Stephen Foster Story": learn to waltz and polka and to play the harmonica; in fact, the first 25 people will receive a free harmonica. Enjoy live bluegrass music. A picnic dinner (BBQ sandwich, green beans, pasta salad plate or hot dog and chips) will be available for purchase, along with free beverages and a cash bar. It all takes place under the stars at the J. Dan Talbott Amphitheater in My Old Kentucky Home State Park. The musical will run on select dates, June 10 through Aug. 12. An indoor matinee is offered at 2 p.m. on Saturdays (except June 10 and Aug. 12). The drama association's second show is fan favorite "Disney's Beauty and the Beast." Presented by Salt River Electric, it will take to the stage on Thursday and Saturday evenings, July 6 through Aug. 5. Follow Belle into the Beast's enchanted castle to meet Cogsworth, Lumiere, Babette, Mrs. Potts and Chip, see dancing dishes and hear the beautiful songs made famous by the now-classic 1994 animated movie. Also taking place at the amphitheatre is the 2017 Live at the Park concert series: Yacht Rock Revue – Mon., June 19; Love and Theft – Mon., July 17; The Monarchs – old time rock 'n roll – Mon., Aug. 7; Gary Puckett & the Union Gap – Mon., Aug. 21; and Draw the Line – Fri., Sept. 8. Celebrate the 191st anniversary of the birth of the "Father of American Music" with an evening of fun and fireworks at My Old Kentucky Home State Park. Enjoy old-fashioned games, face painting, a bounce house and more beginning at 6:30 p.m. Then take your seats and enjoy a performance of "The Stephen Foster Story," with a free cupcake at intermission for everyone. After the show, sit back and relax as a spectacular fireworks show lights up the sky above the amphitheater.
