Cruel Dictator Rules Post-Apocalyptic America in "Check Mate"

TUCSON, Ariz. - Feb. 27, 2017 - PRLog -- A new novel on Amazon features a future America decimated by World War III. President Douglas Aldrich rules with an iron fist. He and his brother/co-conspirator produce "Check Mate," a show that rewards people with a million dollars if they kill another citizen for their reality television show. The country is divided among those who obey the rules, fans of "Check Mate," and those who seek to end it. Sallie Cochren's book is available in paperback and on Kindle. The tone of "Check Mate" is of both hope and despair. The police force is cruel and abides by Aldrich's methods, striking even more fear into the citizens. While many are afraid to go against Aldrich, one of the main characters resists. Darren is the leader of a group called the plotters and their goal is to destroy Aldrich's regime. The plotters are extremely outnumbered but they are determined to make a difference. Adding to Darren's worries is the need to keep Maria safe. Maria is the newest member of the plotters and the girl Darren loves.

Getting others to join the plotters is a daunting task. Even among those rebelling, they disagree as to how far they should go and whether or not they should use violent methods.Inspired by the plotters, riots start popping up throughout Aldrich's township which gives the plotters hope that they are beginning to influence others. In a society where cruelty is rewarded, the plotters may be the nation's best hope.

In addition to publishing "Check Mate," Cochren taught public school for 16 years and spent most of those years teaching Language Arts to middle school students. Her passion in teaching was working with students on their creative writing and helping students bring out their ideas in creative ways. Cochren is now focusing on her writing. In addition to planning a sequel for "Check Mate," she is also working on a horror novel.
