LOS ANGELES - Dec. 14, 2016 - PRLog -- The DangerMan Hero Awards proudly commenced at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles to honor those taking steps in bettering California. Over 250 community members, honorees and families attended in true hero fashion.

Hero of the Year was awarded to Kathryn Icenhower, Ph.D., LCSW, whose award-winning programs encompass the full spectrum of human needs — from shelter, housing and transportation, to substance-abuse treatment to child protective services. They offer children & families the chance to succeed — for children to excel in school and for families to break the cycle of poverty among the myriad other activities. As CEO of the largest family-centered service provider in South LA, Icenhower gets extraordinary satisfaction in seeing family dreams come to life. Over time, she has managed to create globally recognized programs that service over 10,000 children and parents annually.

Recognition was given to community advocates including: Anthony Begonia (Salvation Army Ent Division), Nathon Jones (The Greater Los Angeles Epilepsy Foundation), Christopher Garza (Taco Tuesday 4 The Homeless), Deborah Anderson (The H.U.G. Program), Freddie Muse Jr. (The Men's Cancer Network), Kandee Lewis (The Positive Results Foundation), Kathryn Icenhower, Ph.D., LCSW (Shields For Families), Kenneth Henderson (Coach View Prep LA), Michael John Derricott aka MJ (Makeovers That Matter), Patrice Jinso-Springer (Clothes The Deal), Terry Boykin (Street Positive) and Tige Charity (Kids In The Spotlight) and Latasha Amerson (Latasha Wells Amerson Leadership Academy).

Comic Book Legend Stan Lee received the DangerMan Lifetime Achievement Award. Lee is known for creating some of Marvel's most memorable characters and has been referred to as the godfather of the modern day superhero. In true hero fashion, he was once quoted, "We never make the villain glamorous; we make the hero glamorous and we try to write every story so that you'll identify with the hero, and you in your own life will want to do good things like the hero does."
