ATLANTA - Nov. 16, 2016 - PRLog -- Aunjanue Ellis, along with civic leaders, will hold a press conference in the nation's capital to bring attention to the issue of the Confederate Flag being present at the Super Bowl. The Confederate flag represents a history of hate towards all Americans particularly African Americans and those of Native American descent. This is especially troubling when up to 70% of the NFL is comprised of African-Americans, and zero percent of the major owners are African American.

Ellis will be joined by distinguished guest speakers including community activists like Rose Simmons, the daughter of the late, Rev. Daniel "Super Simmons," Sr. who was one of the "Charleston 9" victims.

The 'Birth of a Nation' actress also known for her role in The Help, Book of Negroes and ABC's Quantico will be reading an open letter to Roger Goodell calling upon the NFL to ban the Confederate Flag from the Super Bowl.

Ellis stands with Colin Kaepernick, and other NFL athletes who are taking to the NFL and this country to task on race.

Ellis states, "NASCAR whose roster of drivers is largely white has taken a stand and banned the confederate flag from its races. Why hasn't the NFL done the same? We have no other conclusion to make other than a blatant lack of disrespect the NFL has for its players and African Americans."

As stated in part in  the Mississippi Declaration of Secession:

"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery - the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product, which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin."

She continues, "With the NFL's insistence on flying the confederate flag, is the NFL telling its African American players, telling America that they are merely material value?  Is the NFL the new plantation?"

About Actress Aunjanue Ellis

A Mississippi native, Actress Aunjanue Ellis led a rally under her organization, "Take it Down America"  at the U.S. Capitol on Flag Day this year in support of a lawsuit against Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant under the 13th and 14th Amendments. Mississippi remains the only state in the Union that shares iconography with the KKK.  Since that rally took place, every public Mississippi university has removed the Mississippi flag containing the Confederate symbol from their campuses.

Ms. Ellis intends to use her celebrity to call out injustices to Americans that have been oppressed by racism. To lend your support or to learn more about her movement, join us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/takeitdownamerica/.
