LONDON - Nov. 3, 2016 - PRLog -- SMi Group are excited to have results from a recent patient study, presented at its 9th Annual Pre-Filled Syringes Europe conference when it returns to London in January 2017.

Earlier this year, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released new draft guidance to inform medical device manufacturers which device types should have human factors data included in premarket submissions, as well as final guidance from 2011 on applying human factors and usability engineering to medical devices.*

What does this mean for device developers? What impact does this have on Pre-Filled Syringes versus auto-injectors? What do patients want in their injectable devices? What features are important to them and why?

These will be some of the questions addressed in a dedicated spotlight on human factors at Pre-Filled Syringes Europe 2017. Highlights will include a keynote address by Novartis HFE expert, Nick Stones, who will discuss crucial regulatory changes and provide a detailed update on new and revised HFE guidelines.

Following on from this, Richard Featherstone, Managing Director of Medical Device Usability, will present key findings on injectable devices through a recent study amongst 136 patients. The results will provide valuable patient insight into questions such as:

- Why do some patients prefer to see the needle and others don't?
- Why do some patients want large devices and others prefer small?
- How important is the device colour?
- Do patients want devices that make sound or devices that are silent?
