Follow on Google News | Americans in Support of Law Enforcement Holds First Outreach Event in TexasPolice officers and local police supporters gathered to celebrate the law enforcement community and open a dialogue meant to improve the collaborative relationship between police officers and the communities they serve. Attendees to the successful event, held at Henry's Tavern at the Shops at Legacy, enjoyed not only live music, food, and refreshments but also a strong sense of solidarity with the law enforcement community. Raymund King, M.D. J.D., who is both a physician and an attorney as well as a passionate philanthropist, said, "This was a terrific event to help raise awareness about our everyday heroes that are essential to maintaining the fabric of our society." King added, "It was an honor to co-sponsor this event." Back the Blue in Texas was only the first of what will be many similar events held throughout the nation, according the Americans in Support of Law Enforcement President and Executive Director Scott G. Erickson. "Our communities need events like this. Our nation needs events like this," Erickson said. "The law enforcement community has been vilified for far too long and the vilification and almost constant stream of negativity polluting the public discourse has eaten away at the essential police and community relationship." Erickson added, "We hope our Back the Blue events will help empower both citizens as well as law enforcement personnel to stand up for each other and begin to heal police and community relations." Americans in Support of Law Enforcement (http://www.supportingcops.org) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to adding context and perspective to the public conversation on policing in society.
