Odoo Community Association Joins Open Source Initiative

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Oct. 19, 2016 - PRLog -- The Open Source Initiative® (OSI), a global non-profit formed to educate about and advocate for the benefits of open source software and communities, announced today the affiliate membership of the Odoo Community Association (OCA), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the widespread use of Odoo and to support the collaborative development of Odoo features.

Odoo is a suite of open source enterprise management applications used by large companies, small businesses, associations and many different types of organizations to manage, automate, measure and optimize operations, finances and projects. The international Odoo community includes over two million users, 450+ contributors, with support for twenty-five languages. Odoo was recently recognized as one of InfoWorld's top picks in open source business applications, collaboration, and middleware. "The OCA bylaws specifically state, 'all software developments controlled by the Association will be published under a license approved by the Open Source Initiative.' That commitment highlights the value of, and opportunities through, open source licensing."

One of the most important activities of the OSI is as an internationally recognized standards body, maintaining the Open Source Definition for the good of the community. The Open Source Initiative Approved License program creates a nexus of trust around which developers, users, corporations and governments can organize open source cooperation. The growing number of Affiliate Members, like OCA, highlight both the importance of the OSI's work and acknowledgement of the OSI's authority in open source licensing.
