KENT, Ohio - Oct. 17, 2016 - PRLog -- Kent State University's College of Business Administration's Center for Information Systems (CIS) held a special event to commemorate its 30th anniversary on October 6.

"CIS successfully celebrated our 30th anniversary with an event that brought together many current KSU students, recent and not so recent grads, IT professionals at all stages in their careers and KSU faculty and staff," said Cathy Bakes, Ph.D., professor emeritus in management and information systems.

The night started off with a dinner and led into a keynote speaker presentation. Pawan Verma, CIO of Foot Locker, was the keynote speaker for the event and discussed "How Customer Experience is Redefining Retail." In his keynote speech, Verma discussed how technology plays a big part in customer experience in the retail industry and how data is used to better understand customer. Verma is an alumnus of the Executive MBA program at Kent State University.

Around 100 people were in attendance at the celebration. A few local companies sponsored table of eight, including Allstate, Davey Tree, Goodyear and Park Hannifin. Smuckers, Progressive Insurance and Eaton were also represented at the event.

Donations given during this event will benefit the Center for Information Systems in its continued efforts to increase enrollment in the CIS major, influence curriculum changes to meet today's business needs and provide practical job training through co-op, internship and mentorship opportunities. All donations will also be used to recognize high-achieving students with tuition scholarships and leadership awards.

The Center for Information Systems combines IT professionals, Kent State faculty and current students to ensure relevance of Kent State's Information Systems curricula. Student success and participation are rewarded through scholarships, facilitation of internships, venues for public speaking and interaction with corporate members.
