Protecting your ID is not about protecting your credit information

The newer generation hacks are increasingly focused and exploit every known science to the hackers. No, that is completely untrue – most data breaches are caused by employees.

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 19, 2016 - PRLog -- Most ID Protection services lead you to believe that hackers are only after your credit cards and credit information. The speak synonymously of credit protection as ID protection.

This is entirely incorrect. The statistics the ITRC Breach Stats Report suggests something entirely contrary to this understanding. Banking and Financial institutions have been hacked the least between Jan 1-2016 and Sep 8-2016. Of the 545 reported hacks, only 21 bank hacks were reported and only 5,262 records were stolen.

Over the past few years, banks have invested Billions to protect and safeguard their data. They have been operating on Hacker's DEFCON 1 since 2007. Further, they insure every customer and transaction to minimize their losses and replace your credit card or Account number in a snap.

What we need to watch out for are your Medical Records, Insurance Providers Databases, Voter's Registration Information, DMV, and other data stored with other Government agencies.

As most of the providers proudly state as-if it is even a disclaimer – No one can prevent all identity theft, is just hubris. Credit monitoring tools are thoroughly dated and are on their way out. The next generation of tools, such as, Lifelock will eventually run their course to become part of history of a simpler past.

The newer generation hacks are increasingly focused and exploit every known science to the hackers. No, that is completely untrue – most data breaches are caused by employees.

An employee wakes up in the morning, goes to work, spends 8 hours browsing the internet, and leaves at the end of the day with a USB stick full of customer data. This is a data breach. Most go undetected for months or even years by which time the stolen data has changed hands a dozen times.

Today's question is: How do you protect yourself from a data breach you don't even know about?

Download the IDVigil app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glasso). Unlike other tools, IDVigil will never ask you for any personal information to begin using the app. Use the app to receive actionable identity alerts.
