"Applicants will be asked to describe their business, tell us about the product or service they offer, what customer problem that their business is seeking to solve and more," said Tom Hellman, President of SCORE Chapter 87. "The application also asks why the business idea is unique and why it provides value," he added.
This competition will give six selected finalists, two emerging businesses, two existing businesses, and two student businesses the opportunity to present their business idea to a panel of distinguished judges and the business community at BizFest 2016. Finalists will be selected from all applications submitted.
Applications will be evaluated based on uniqueness of the business idea, competitive advantage, and clarity and overall thoroughness of the application. First and second place winners in each category will be determined by the panel of judges at BizFest 2016.
Pitchfest 2016 Prizes are: First place to the top contestants in each category (emerging, existing, and student business) will win $2000.00. Second place to the top runner-ups in each category (emerging, existing, and student business) wins $500.00.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of or your business entity resides in Volusia or Flagler County.
Event producers include Brown & Brown, Florida Health Care Plans, SunTrust, and Volusia County. A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are available and range from table top exhibitors to producers. The event includes a box lunch, networking/B2B, table top exhibits, a keynote speaker, a wine and cheese reception for VIP registrants, as well as panel and round table discussions.
Panel discussions at BizFest include 'How to be an Entrepreneur' and 'Social Media Marketing'. Round table discussions include; Business Insurance, Financing Your Business, Healthcare Plans and Free SCORE Services.

The Volusia/Flagler SCORE Chapter celebrated its 50th year serving clients in 2015. Last year, they provided over 1,400 counseling services for some 775 entrepreneurs, many of whom have gone on to start businesses or improve existing businesses. In addition, the Chapter conducts free workshop programs, in collaboration with the UCF Incubator, which attracted over 2,100 attendees last year. The Chapter has also received the Platinum Rating by the National SCORE Organization as one of the top Chapters nationwide.
SCORE "Counselors to America's Small Business" is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors. SCORE was founded in 1964 and provides free business counseling, management consulting, and free workshops. SCORE counselors help people start a business or assist an existing small business grow and prosper.
