By: Imetrum Ltd Imetrum's UVX system is designed to seamlessly integrate with the majority of manufacturers' test machines. The UVX concept of interchangeable extensometer modules simplify testing across the commonly used gauge lengths and specimen sizes. The system is also designed to handle a large percentage of the ASTM tests methods and uses standard material testing language and terminology. Imetrum are already known for their measurement speed and accuracy, offering the fastest and most accurate video extensometer commercially available, which is commonly used for both routine testing and detailed investigations of all materials, including modulus determination of carbon composites, and elongation of plastics. The UVX flexi video extensometer, for complex testing, received certification proving its accuracy and suitability to this standard (equivalent to ASTM E83 B-1). Both the Universal Extensometer (UVX) Flexi and 3D Precision Displacement Tracker (PDT) systems, for material testing and component and assembly testing, are based on Imetrum's Video GaugeTM software. They are characterised by their measurement resolution, accuracy, versatility and efficient work flows. Each system offers unique measurement tools such as two and three dimensional optical LVDTs and measurement of true shear strain. Imetrum will also be demonstrating one of their software tools on Booth R75. Their Strain Map tool is application specific and measures and displays strain and displacement gradients, making it a good overview before point to point measurement. Ian Bond, Head of Department of Aerospace Engineering, Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science, University of Bristol highlights the benefits of Imetrum's UVX Flexi system and Video GaugeTM software in collecting the data they need for their research: "Video Gauge software can be used to extract deformation and strain data from any test, irrespective of scale, so long as a stream of images can be obtained. For low speed testing on conventional test machines this data can be extracted in real time up to at least 300Hz. It can also be used in conjunction with the high speed camera post-test. When coupled with a miniaturised test machine and a metallurgical microscope this gives us the capacity to carry out very fine scale studies of the strains within loaded composites at the meso and micro scales." - ends - Note for editors Imetrum's product now has over 300 users worldwide and is a versatile, non-contact video based system that allows the user to test a variety of important parameters (strain, rotation, displacement etc.) in real time, in a single test. As the Imetrum system is video based, a record of the test can be saved so engineers can either post process the test or complete further analysis without the need for repeating the test, saving both time and money.
