SEATTLE - July 6, 2016 - PRLog -- Ashton Locklear, an 18-year old Olympic hopeful from North Carolina, is poised to travel to Rio to compete for the United States in artistic gymnastics. Family and friends have put together a crowdfunding effort to get her parents, Terry and Carrie, to go to see their daughter compete at the USA Gymnastic Olympic Trails in San Jose, California, July 8 to 10.

The fundraising effort is being hosted by generosity.com. Search "Ashton Locklear."

Family, friends, and supporters also invite encouragement and prayers to #Road2Rio on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media. Many people have the misconception that athletes that make it to this level come from wealthy families. Many, like Ashton and the Locklear family, aren't wealthy and it's a struggle to get to see their children compete.

Ashton will be the first Native American from the Lumbee Tribe or from any tribe to compete for the United States. With a final solid performance in San Jose this week, Locklear will be going to Rio with four other outstanding athletes to win gold for the United States in the Artistic Gymnastics competition.

Ashton's story and that of her family is one of commitment and dedication to her sport. In order to train, Ashton leaves her Daddy and home in Hamlet, North Carolina, every Monday morning to travel 2½ hours with her Mom to an apartment near Statesville. Ashton trains an hour from there at a gym in Huntersville. Her mom volunteers there to offset the cost of Ashton's training. Friends allow them to share the one room apartment in exchange for Carrie transporting their daughter to the same gym where Ashton trains. Ashton travels back home on Saturday to see her Daddy for the weekend.

Supporters are asked to kindly donate funds to https://www.generosity.com/sports-fundraising/help-suppor...
