Way-finding Messaging Helping Riders Where they Meets the Rails
 
WASHINGTON - June 10, 2016 - PRLog -- Metrorail SafeTrack, a year-long series of rail closures and single-tracking, has begun, and impacts will be felt across the entire region. WMATA and regional transit agencies are rushing to communicate travel alternatives to riders in busy rail corridors. Transit Displays, already in place across the Washington region, will inform travelers in those last, critical way-finding steps. Redmon Group is already implementing communication strategies on our Transit Displays near Metrorail stations affected by SafeTrack.

As the SafeTrack plan emerged, Redmon Group has been helping our transit partners utilize their displays in an unprecedented circumstance. In lieu of train arrivals, the Transit Displays will communicate hyper-local, way-finding information specific to the transit changes created by SafeTrack, including ways riders can navigate station orientation, bay locations, alerts, and various WMATA and regional bus systems that will serve the location. The Transit Display software allows messages to be scheduled ahead of time and can be set to expire, so valuable staff time isn't used on updating messages right in the middle of closures.

The software that drives Transit Display is built to adapt to exactly the kind of emergency and way-finding messaging that riders will need as they determine where their bus will stop. As train arrivals cease at a closed rail location, space on the display is available for special messages and directions. This space is an opportunity for WMATA and other display owners to activate the special message option, already built into the Transit Display system, and provide up-to-date, location-specific information to transit users.

Ongoing and up-to-date communication will be critical, especially as the SafeTrackwork shifts around the region, beginning and ending on various weekdays and weekends. Redmon Group's Transit Display special message feature will help bridge communications between the riders and the agencies working to get people on their way. Here's how our displays will help during SafeTrack:

• Transit Displays speak to riders where they already are, at and near the transit stations and stops.
• Leveraging available space on the display is another touching point to direct riders to alternatives.
• Show information that is hyper-local to that station, like which bus bay to board a shuttle, helping riders make that critical transit connection.
• Messages can be scheduled ahead of the closures and alternative messages can be prepped if the situation at a station changes, saving valuable staff time.
