MEMPHIS, Tenn. - June 2, 2016 - PRLog -- Author Jae Henderson is hosting her first Little Writers Workshop for children ages 7 -12 on Saturday, June 11. During the workshop, children will learn the basic elements of writing a good story, participate in a hands-on assignment and hear from Jae as well as other authors about the publishing process. The Little Writers Workshop will be held at the Ira Samelson Boys & Girls Club, located at 894 Isabelle St. in Memphis, TN. Check-in is at 9:00 a.m. and instruction will be from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  The cost of the basic workshop is $20. Students must be registered to attend.

Jae Henderson first came into the spotlight as a radio personality and talk show producer on WHRK/K97 FM but her first love is writing. She is a graduate of the University of Memphis with degrees in journalism and English and before becoming an author, she served as a freelance writer for several local publications. In 2011, she published her first book, "Someday". To date, she has released a total of four novels and two books of short stories.  She is currently working on her seventh novel which is scheduled to be released in June. Jae decided to host the workshop after meeting several young people who had questions about how to write a book. "It's not uncommon for parents to introduce me to their children because they want them to meet someone who has published a book. It reinforces that it is an obtainable goal," said Jae. "I also began being contacted by several parents who wanted me to spend time with their children and speak to them about being an author. After I realized that the demand was there, I organized this workshop. I am looking forward to helping future writers develop their craft, and I'm grateful to the Ira Samelson Boys and Girls Club for agreeing to let us use their facility."

Although Jae's books are not geared toward children the fundamentals of writing a good story are the same no matter the genre.  The Little Writers Workshop will create a fun and educational atmosphere for young people to explore their love of writing. Fellow authors Ashley Foxx and Angela Kay Austin will also be on hand to assist with instruction. Ashley Foxx is an elementary school principal and the co-author of the children's book, "Kesha Cane and Her Very Sweet Tooth". She and her sister, April Foxx, also head a publishing company that has helped other children's authors release their works.  Romance author Angela Kay Austin has written twelve books.  Her latest release is entitled, "Melodee: A Song for Nora".

There is also a personal aspect to the Little Writers Workshop for Jae. "After my mother passed, I found a little book I wrote and illustrated when I was about seven, and it was about my mother. It was an 'ah ha' moment for me. I realized how far my love of reading and writing went back. I wrote because an educator told me I could and showed me how. Now, that I'm a published author I want to offer that same encouragement to other young people. I want to help them make their dreams come true," she said.

The Little Writers Workshop has had a good response. Media outlet, the New Tri-State Defender is a sponsor. Several of the children at the Boys & Girls Club are attending and the nonprofit Women. Identity. Purpose.  or W.I.P. is sponsoring the attendance of five female students from Caldwell-Guthrie Elementary who are interested in becoming authors. Since 2006, W.I.P. has worked to empower women and girls to become fiscally, physically and emotionally whole in order to create a better life for themselves and their families.

The cost of the basic workshop is $20. Jae also offers other packages for parents who would like her to continue to work with their child. For more information about the Little Writers Workshop and to register, visit www.jaehendersonauthor.com.
