SOMERVILLE, Mass. - May 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Noteworthy Sheet Music, LLC (NSM) is an online sheet music publishing enterprise with a catalog of >140 editions, most of which are unavailable from other sources.  NSM specializes in, but is not limited to, sheet music for flute and alto flute.  They offer original contemporary works by distinguished American composers, facsimile editions of rare historical scores, and unique transcriptions of pieces from the classical repertoire.  Selected NSM publications are offered as professionally-printed hard copy versions, and most of NSM's catalog listings are available as convenient pdf downloads from the NSM website.  Visit www.NoteworthySheetMusic.com for additional information about the new release mentioned below and other NSM editions.  New sheet music selections are uploaded often, along with preview pages, contributing composer biographies, useful links, reviews and articles.

As noted in John W. Pratt's foreword to the new Noteworthy Sheet Music edition of his clarinet transcription, the Sonata in E minor, K.304, belongs to Mozart's second group of violin sonatas, the seven "Mannheim" sonatas of 1778, which were begun in Mannheim.  Mozart's works in minor keys are rare and special: consider his Symphony No.40 and the G-minor quintet.  K.304, his only work in E minor, and the piano sonata in A minor, K.310, were written the summer that his mother died, an association often noted and the inspiration for the cover image (now in the public domain) of NSM's K.304 clarinet edition, a "Portrait of Anna Maria Mozart", mother of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, by Rosa Hagenauer-Barducci.

K.304 epitomizes Mozart's ability to achieve great power with spare means.  The violin part rarely makes significant use of double stops and is in general well suited to a wind instrument.  Previously, Mr. Pratt created a transcription of the Sonata in E minor for alto flute in G, also published by NSM, and now he offers his excellent arrangement for clarinet in A.  Note that the Pratt transcription provides the advantage of staying in Mozart's key, and that the edition includes the A-clarinet part only.  The clarinet part works perfectly with the piano part in Mozart's original score for piano and violin, which is in the public domain and readily available free of charge on imslp.org.

For additional information about the seven Mozart Mannheim sonatas and Mr. Pratt's previous transcriptions of them for alto flute, please read his article Mozart's Mannheim Sonatas (https://www.noteworthysheetmusic.com/resources/reviews-a-...), which was originally published by Flute Focus and subsequently republished by NSM on their Resources - Reviews and Articles page.
