Do you remember the late 90's with LiveJournal and Blogger.com?
Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
In the modern and increasingly digital world of business, your corporate blog is one of the strongest tools in your kit. Why? Because if you don't tell your story, someone else will eventually beat you to the ball and control the conversation. Many businesses blog to establish and maintain good public relations with their audiences and customers. If you want to engage and connect with customers, blogging is a solid step towards the desired solution.
Blogs are also great spaces for showcasing your business and team success. Remember, the professional realm is one area where you definitely do want to show and tell your professional progress, including recent research, achievements, projects, professional opinions, etc. with target customers and clients wherever they may be around the world. Your blog will allow you to share the story of your business, its success and how it all serves the audience you most want to connect with and serve.
So, step one is to simply speak up or better yet in this case, write it down.
Blog To Maintain Business Relevance
Even on the most modern and dynamic websites, your blog section will likely be one of the most user-friendly options, available. You can add content to your site by the hour, day, week, month, year and beyond. This is a convenient practice for website owners who want the freedom to continually add new information over time without altering other key components of the site.
That said, one rule of thumb for business blogging is to keep the "freshness factor" in perspective. Maintain relevance by updating your blog. You can edit, adapt and reuse old entries, find inspiration from others in your network, invite guest writers or create something altogether new to keep your blog fresh and relevant for readers. Just remember, to keep your customers in mind and this can be accomplished with tremendous ease.
Increase Traffic & Leads
Search Engine Optimization a.k.a. SEO is another important consideration for business bloggers. If your organization is involved in the development or distribution of a product or service, then you'll naturally need your target audience to know about it. A business blog will help you to tackle this goal by increasing your visibility online via search tools such as, Google, Bing and Yahoo. After all, in business "No marketing strategy is complete without the one element that accelerates viewer traffic and creates a competitive edge: the blog. Those who forgo this invaluable lead-generation tool are missing a golden opportunity for higher conversions and greater ROI. And the keyword: visibility" (Forbes, Dec. 2015). Ultimately, your blog can generate visitors, leads and capital for your company.
In order to take full advantage of your business blog, you'll want to ensure that it's optimized for the search engines, which your audience is using (Today's heavyweight title mostly goes to Google). You can do this by considering the terms and phrases that potential visitors and customers will use to look for the products or services that you offer, along with the keywords that identify your company (e.g. company or department title, etc.). With each fresh blog entry, you'll send a cue to Google, letting them know that your site is fresh and should be rewarded. Search engines respect relevant and fresh websites, first and foremost.
So remember step two, is keep it fresh to reap the best!
