KENT, Ohio - May 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Alayna Harris, senior business management student at Kent State University's College of Business Administration, made it to the "Sweet Sixteen" Quarter Finals of the 2016 National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) held in April.

"The competition was a great opportunity to network with both corporate leaders and students from other universities," said Harris. "I was proud to make it to the quarter finals while representing Kent State University."

The NCSC challenges students' sales skills in an elimination style tournament. During each round, competitors are given a fictional organization with a product to sell.

"The competition was both exciting and nerve racking, but with the training and coaching I received from sales instructor Ellen Daniels and my teammates, I was confident throughout the role play" said Harris. "I knew my team prepared me for almost anything."

Harris' Kent State teammates included Ellen Daniels, instructor of marketing and entrepreneurship; Don Thacker, instructor of marketing and communication; Matt Rickey, senior marketing major; Tom Thompson, senior marketing major; Abby Green, senior entrepreneurship major; Katie Macpherson, senior business management major and Marissa McKinney, junior finance major.

"Coaching Harris for the competition was effortless, she took our suggestions and employed them masterfully," said Daniels. "As a result of her hard work, Alayna is in an enviable position as she is being recruited by five major employers including; Hewlett Packard, Waste Management, Tom James, Pepsi and TekSystems."

There were 137 undergraduate and graduate student participants representing top sales programs from 67 universities in the U.S., Canada and Europe. The event was held at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga., from April 1-4 and hosted by the Center for Professional Selling (CPS) at the Michael J. Coles College of Business.

Kent State University's Sales Certificate Program is also ranked as a top 100 sales programs by the Sales Education Foundation (SEF).

The NSCS started in 1999 and is the largest and oldest collegiate sales competition and recruiting marketplace for Fortune 500 and other companies in the world.
