Wednesday San Jose Meeting to Speak Out on Future of Silicon Valley's Working ClassJoin CHAM and Affordable Housing Network and Silicon Valley Rising to take a stand for not only renters' rights, but the right to organize for better wages, benefits, and decent living and working conditions for San Jose and Silicon Valley families.
By: Norcal Press While tech companies make massive profits and drive up the cost of living in silicon valley, the workers who keep them running smoothly and the low income communities in the area have been left behind. Join on april 27 at 3:00pm at the corner of mission college boulevard and burton drive in santa clara to take the streets to fight for our valley by visiting, http://bit.ly/ These "invisible" workers do not share in the success of the industry which they daily labor to keep running. As contracted workers, they work for a middleman making them ineligible for most of the benefits and amenities offered on the campuses where they work. Silicon valley's working people are standing together to fight for a silicon valley where everyone thrives, including the janitors that clean the halls of tech's campuses, the cafeteria workers that feed the industry, and working people who are doing everything they can to afford housing in the valley. The majority of these workers are sinking so much of their incomes into rent that they have nothing left when it comes time to pay for other bills like food, gas or medicine. Last night, san jose city council reformed rent control for the first time in nearly 40 years, yet the new rules fall far short of giving meaningful relief to renters. Standing with workers who are fighting for fair wages is all the more critical now. Stand with us as we show solidarity in our fight to make this a valley that works for all of us-those of us who live here, work here, raise our families here. We belong in silicon valley. Together, we can make this a region where our communities thrive, instead of just survive. Join us on april 27 at 3:00pm in the fight for our valley.
