Family Life Center Spring Gala Raises $9,433.50, Awards 1st Annual Community Leadership Award

PALM COAST, Fla. - April 18, 2016 - PRLog -- Family Life Center is pleased to announce that their 2nd Annual Spring Gala held April 13^th at the Hammock Dunes Club raised $9,433.50 to help the organization continue to provide services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Flagler County. The event also included the 1^st annual Family Life Community Leadership Award, which was presented to Jake Scully for his work with the Leadership Flagler Class of 23 on their backyard makeover at the Family Life Center.

As part of their Leadership class, participants are required to take on a community project. The team chose the Family Life Center's backyard, where women and children who are escaping from abusive situations stay. The Leadership class expanded the back yard from 45 by 55 square feet to 80 by 124 square feet, all fenced in for safety and privacy. Landscaping included a new butterfly garden with a bench and birdfeeder, as well as a new paver and stone entry into the house. Paths of crushed concrete for walking and riding bikes were also added. The total value was nearly $10,000.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the drive, hard work, and frankly 'leadership' that the Leadership Flagler class displayed taking on this initiative," said Trish Giaccone, Executive Director. "Our families are obviously under a lot of stress when they arrive - showing great courage in seeking our help - we are thrilled that our backyard is now a place where they can feel safe and enjoy their surroundings," Trish added.

Family Life Center has served domestic violence victims in Flagler County since 1987, and is the area's only state-certified domestic violence center. Late last year, they become the certified Rape Crisis Center for Flagler County. They provide services to sexual violence victims age 12 and above. Their mission is to provide essential support services to individuals and families to end Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence in Flagler County.
