WHAT: With the growing concern throughout the country about Veteran homelessness, there is an urgent need for affordable housing. With a comprehensive team of public and private partners, Veterans Village has created a master plan for affordable housing for United States Veterans which will increase the number of living units offered by Veterans Village to a total of 376 units. Arnold Stalk, armed with a Ph.D. in architecture and with extensive experience in private and nonprofit real estate development, has centered his efforts on the repurposed 122-unit Econo Lodge located in the heart of downtown Las Vegas near Charleston Blvd. and Las Vegas Blvd. In 2012, He tapped into the generosity of The Home Depot Foundation, architects, general contractors, volunteers, material suppliers, banks, schools and a crowd of eager hands to refurbish and customize the motel. Known today as Veterans Village, within Veterans Village, United States Veterans have access to 24/7 crisis intervention, mental health services, health care, food, clothing and job referral and training services.
