| Smart metering innovation discussed by Sutton and East Surrey Water and HERA | Smart Water SystemsSMi's 5th annual Smart Water Systems conference will feature case studies and project updates on smart metering technologies from an array of water utilities.
By: SMi Group They have shared their unique perspectives on smart water technology innovation and recent updates on their own smart meter roll-out programmes. On the key benefits of using smart meters, Sutton and East Surrey Water's Network Manager, Jeremy Heath said: "Firstly, there is the benefit of the relationship with the customer. This is a vital part of smart metering and therefore getting it right is going to be key also. The evolution of the smartphone means that we have an ideal channel for keeping customers informed, however we need to recognise that we will need multiple engagement paths. Secondly, there is the operational benefit for the water companies. Water companies are under increased pressure from the ODI's (operational delivery incentives) to manage our networks. Smart meters have the capacity to serve as an operational tool in managing interruptions to supply and detecting leakage."
