Earlier this year, Noteworthy Sheet Music published flute and alto flute versions of 4 Short Pieces by the English composer, conductor, violinist and violist Frank Bridge (1879-1941). Now there are new transcriptions created by John W. Pratt of four more of Bridge's short works available on the NSM website. Published by Bridge between 1903 and 1911, the works included in this second edition are Cradle Song, written for violin or cello and piano, Gondoliera written for violin and piano, and Mélodie and Elégie written for cello and piano. Mr. Pratt has transcribed all four of these pieces for both flute and alto flute, and both instrument versions are included in a single combined edition published by NSM. Cradle Song and Elégie are particularly beautiful on the alto flute, but all are effective on either instrument, so Mr. Pratt and the publisher together opted to let flutists decide themselves on which instrument they choose to play each of these enjoyable, accessible pieces.
