By: American Cancer Society held on October 22, 2016 at Hemming Park, and will unite the community with a shared determination to finish the fight against breast cancer. Dollars raised will enable the Society to continue funding groundbreaking breast cancer research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by the disease; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable. “We look forward to partnering with the American Cancer Society to host this exciting and important community health event in Hemming Park this year,” said Vince Cavin, CEO of Friends of Hemming Park. “Breast Cancer affects so many North Florida families. This event is vital to making sure everyone is educated and aware of the risks, and that those in need of support will receive it.” Footer Header Since 1993, more than 11 million supporters have raised more than $685 million nationwide. Last year, 10,000 walkers in Jacksonville helped to raise more than $318,000. We are excited to see those numbers grow in the new location as well as increasing our army of supporters. “Uniting with others at the Making Strides walk gives us power to make a real difference in the fight to end breast cancer,” said Allison Gubitz, Community Manager for MSABC Jacksonville. According to the American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2015, an estimated 231,840 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and an estimated 40,290 will die from the disease this year.
