The Marmalade Platform adds support for iOS 3D Touch and WatchKit extensions

LONDON - Feb. 29, 2016 - PRLog -- 3D Touch, available on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus devices, can be used by developers to add an extra level of engagement to games, with support for both Quick Actions and detecting touch pressure.

Another addition to the Marmalade Platform is support for WatchKit extensions on iOS. Apps and games designed with Marmalade can now communicate with Apple Watch apps, opening up new opportunities for interaction.

“Taking advantage of these features is an excellent way to make games more attractive to players,” says Ryan Gilmour, Head of Product Management at Marmalade. “It’s also a great opportunity to increase your chances of being featured on the App Store, as has recently happened with one of our own studio’s titles, Spinguins.”

Keen to enhance their newest title, Marmalade Game Studio harnessed 3D Touch support in the latest release of Spinguins, a refreshing and innovative take on the match-three puzzle game genre.

“We have incorporated both Quick Actions and touch pressure to add new and interesting mechanics to the game,” says Aaron Ludlow, Spinguins Producer. “Players can use 3D Touch pressure sensitivity to interact with the camera dynamically, adding to the fun, tactile experience of playing the game. Quick Actions let players dive straight into the action from just a single press from the Home screen.”

Both 3D Touch and interaction with Apple Watch can be used to improve the user experience in many different ways and Marmalade is excited to see how the game development community incorporates these new capabilities.
