TOTNES, U.K. - Feb. 8, 2016 - PRLog -- Many people from the historic town of Totnes in South Devon are known for their outspoken, outlandish and some would say bohemian lifestyle, so it takes quite a lot to impress any audience there.

But, the well-travelled folk of the town were mesmerized by the delightful a cappella harmony group – Thula Mama (directed by Internationally acclaimed and award winning composer and choir director Helen Yeomans) when they performed at their first gig at St John’s Church in Bridgetown, Totnes.

When a group of 16 local mums and their babies from the Dartington branch of Thula Mama took to the stage for their 20 minute programme the audience became transfixed as the harmonies of the mothers and the giggles and gurgles of the babies echoed around the hall.

Thula Mama is the brain-child of Helen Yeomans and it consists of mother and baby harmony singing groups based throughout the UK and The Netherlands. The Thula Mama groups get together weekly to sing beautiful lullabies and soulful music written by Helen. All the women who get involved have two things in common:

1.      A love of singing

2.      Motherhood

Thula Mama is a franchised business which has been in operation since 2002. Helen who had herself just given birth to her third child at that time, decided to set up an informal singing group for other mothers and babies to join.  From her home in Devon she soon had requests from women across the UK wanting to know how they could become Thula Mamas and create memories through music. After being featured on the Chris Evans Show on BBC Radio 2 in 2007 her franchise business really took off and she now directs 11 branches across the UK, and each one is led by a talented, local musical mother.

Helen is always happy to hear from women who would like to join one of the groups or indeed set up their own group in their local area so if you would like to know more about how to get involved with Thula Mama contact Helen: helen@thulamama.co.uk
