BISHOP, Calif. - Jan. 29, 2016 - PRLog -- Furnace Creek Resort to Host Book Signing fornew local history book, Furnace Creek Resort

Author David Woodruff will be available to sign copies of book

Telling a story in pictures is Furnace Creek Resort, an addition to Arcadia Publishing’s popular Images of America series. The book by David Woodruff boasts 202 vintage images, many of which have never been published.

Since opening on February 1, 1927, with just 12 guest rooms, Furnace Creek Resort has achieved preeminence among US National Park lodges and hotels. Conceived by the Pacific Coast Borax Company in 1926, the inn was the answer to the declining mining industry, which had left the Death Valley Railroad with nothing to haul. The construction of Furnace Creek Inn helped to shift Death Valley’s draw from mining to tourism, bringing a new industry to the Old West. Steeped in history and tradition, the inn and the ranch have become as much a destination as the park itself. With naturally heated swimming pools, the world’s lowest golf course, four-diamond hospitality, and surroundings of unsurpassed natural beauty, Furnace Creek offers experiences that are long remembered by its guests.

Highlights from Furnace Creek Resort:

· The majority of the images and documents are from the original archives of the builders of the Furnace Creek properties-the Pacific Coast Borax Company courtesy of the current borax company- Rio Tinto Borax

· Much of the information in the book has been obtained in first person oral interviews conducted by the author with former employees of Furnace Creek Resort

· Many of the photographs are from the personal collections of former employees and longtime visitors to Furnace Creek Resort and Death Valley as well from the authors personal archives
